The Problem:

Within the forest lies the history, traditions, economic opportunities, and welfare of a community that has overcome war and other social and environmental challenges.

The tropical dry forest once served as the main agricultural pantry for the Colombian Caribbean region.

The forest has been used as a battlefield during the wars, and now with evolving climate change, the tropical dry forest has regained its ecological importance

The continued existence of the Tropical Dry Forest depends on the establishment of good production practices, farm planning and conservation strategies. The creation of ecological networks in the forests’ core areas, corridors, and buffer zones guarantee species’ genetic exchange and ensures its biodiversity.Using the context of ecological, social and cultural conservation, the design team was inspired to create services and communication strategies connecting these valuable commodities from the tropical dry forest to new viable and emerging markets. Together, over the course of six days, a team of 27 service designers, communication designers, and strategists conducted and analyzed in-field research before developing the final system and visual communications.

The solution:

Saber del Monte (The knowledge of the forest)

The Saber del Monte system involves a diverse network of allies that partner together in search of sustainable agricultural production practices and its value chain.

This system empowers everyone to take care of this unique and endangered ecosystem equally.
